Key Messages
Updated at 1153 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026
- Above average high temperatures and mainly dry weather will continue through early next week.
- Locally enhanced grassland fire spread rates possible northwest of I-44 Friday afternoon.
- Rain chances return by late next week but temperatures will remain above normal.
Short Term
(Through Friday) Issued at 1136 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026
Temperatures will remain well above normal Friday despite some increase in high level cloudiness. Afternoon highs will mostly be in the lower 80s. South winds will increase enough to the northwest of Interstate 44 to raise fire weather concerns somewhat Friday afternoon.
Long Term
(Friday Night through Thursday) Issued at 1136 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026
The warm weather will continue into early next week despite a continued increase in high level cloudiness. An upper level disturbance passing to our north will result in increased mid level cloudiness Monday night into early Tuesday, and a few light showers may brush the northwest corner of the forecast area despite a very dry low level airmass.
Rain chances do look to increase during the latter half of next week although models differ in the details. The consensus suggests that a frontal passage is unlikely during the next week, so temperatures look to remain above normal for most if not all of the rest of the month.
Aviation
(06Z TAFS) Issued at 1153 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026
VFR conditions will prevail through the period. There will be some increase in high cloud and southerly winds that are likely to stay blo impactful levels.
