Forecasters' discussion

What Has Changed

Slightly increased wind gusts tomorrow afternoon and evening with he passing of a dry cold front.

Key Messages

1) A dry pattern will continue through most of the upcoming week, with a couple of dry cold fronts expected to push through the region Monday afternoon and on Thursday.

Discussion

KEY MESSAGE 1...

No significant weather impacts are expected over the next week plus. The pattern will continue to be dry with high pressure dominating for the bulk of the forecast period. Only exceptions will be tomorrow afternoon and evening and again on Thursday as dry cold fronts push through the region. These fronts will bring an increase in wind gusts, however they will also bring an increase in relative humidity, which alleviates some of our fire weather concerns. Wind gusts of 15 to 20 mph will be possible starting tomorrow afternoon. Minimum RH will range in the upper 40s to low 50s percent in the mid afternoon, before increasing in the late afternoon and evening as the stronger wind gusts arrive. Due to the increase in RH, we are not expecting to issue any fire related special weather statements, but will continue to monitor fire weather conditions closely.

Aviation

Conditions will continue to be mainly VFR this TAF period. With clear skies expected once again tonight, there may be valley fog at ELM with IFR/LIFR visibility restrictions, but confidence is lower compared to previous nights. Winds will be mainly light and variable until midday Monday. A cold front will move through the region with winds becoming more northwesterly. Some gusts around 15 kts are expected at SYR and RME.

Outlook...

Monday Afternoon through Monday Night...MVFR ceilings possible as front passes through.

Tuesday through Friday...Mainly VFR. Morning fog at KELM possible each morning. Low chance for showers at SYR and RME Thursday night with frontal system moving through.
