Key Messages

Updated at 248 PM EDT Fri Oct 23 2026

- Northeast winds will increase on Saturday, then increase further on Sunday, becoming windy. Northeast wind gusts will peak in the 25-35 mph range during the day on Sunday.

- Hazardous marine conditions are expected from this evening through Monday due to strong and near-gale northeast winds. The windiest conditions will be on Saturday night and Sunday morning, when frequent gusts to near gale-force are expected. Small Craft Advisories are in effect beginning tonight for all the open Gulf waters.

Short Term

(This Evening through Saturday) Issued at 248 PM EDT Fri Oct 23 2026

Areawide surface observations show that NE winds have jumped, compared with 24 hours ago, as pressure gradients start to tighten between high pressure over the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region and the Bahamas. The air mass remains dry and stable today, with surface dewpoints ranging from the upper 30s NW of DHN-ABY to the lower 50s coast and Suwannee Valley. Under clear skies tonight, winds should still decouple enough for one more decent night of radiational cooling.

NE winds will continue to increase further on Saturday. 925 mb winds of 20-25 knots on Saturday afternoon suggest gusts of 20-25 mph are realistic.

Long Term

(Saturday night through next Friday) Issued at 248 PM EDT Fri Oct 23 2026

Pressure gradients will tighten further on Saturday night and Sunday between the surface high over the U.S. Mid-Atlantic and the low over the Bahamas. Since yesterday, models have shifted a bit further south with the strongest easterly 925 mb winds at sunrise Sunday, with the strongest area of 35-45 knot 925 mb winds now south of I-10 over the Suwannee Valley and Nature Coast. South Georgia has seen the greatest downward trend in models winds on Sunday. Even so, most of the region will easily get gusts of 25-30 mph on Sunday, after the low-level morning inversion breaks. 30-40 mph gusts are possible further south toward Dixie County.

Gradients will remain tight until late Monday, when high pressure to the northeast starts to weaken. Even so, low pressure will continue east and southeast of Florida throughout the week ahead, keeping our winds from a drier north-northeasterly direction.

The high-amplitude 500 mb pattern should start to gradually de- amplify next Thursday and Friday, though GEFS and EPS ensemble means still show flat ridging over our region through next Friday. Therefore, the 7-day forecast remains rain-free as we extend it out another day into the future. Beyond next Friday, the 8-14 Day Outlook continues to paint odds tilting to above normal rainfall as we flip the calendar to November.

Aviation

(18Z TAFS) Issued at 1254 PM EDT Fri Oct 23 2026

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period with clear skies. Northeast winds will decrease around sunset, then increase late Saturday morning, with gusts of 15 to 20 knots.
