Key Messages
- Drier and warmer through most of the week, with a pattern shift starting on Friday.
- Cooler and more active weather expected this weekend and into next week. Details remain uncertain.
Short Term
Issued at 1239 AM MDT Tue Oct 27 2026
With consistent fog across El Paso County, have issued a Dense Fog Advisory, valid through 9am today. Will monitor conditions to see if an expansion is needed.
Patchy fog is expected across the area into the morning hours. Take caution when traveling, as visibility could be reduced quickly. Main areas of concern will be areas along and east of I-25, along with the San Luis Valley. Conditions will improve by midday.
Generally a warm, dry day across the region today. High temperatures will be in the 60s to low-70s, with gradually clearing skies and light south winds.
Ongoing flooding will still be a concern around the Rio Grande and Conejos Rivers, with high flows and flood waters expected to linger for several more days. In addition, high flow continues to push through the Purgatoire River from recent rainfall, with minor flooding expected near Las Animas that will last through the day.
Long Term
Issued at 1239 AM MDT Tue Oct 27 2026
Warm and dry through most of the week. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above average around midweek, cooling a bit on Thursday after a passing wave shoves a dry cold front through the plains.
Long-range forecast remains consistent with recent model runs, though some of the fine details are still unclear. A broad upper trough will amplify over the Pacific Northwest, moving down the coast and tracking east through the weekend. Southwest flow will settle over our area out ahead of the system, with a renewed moisture tap leading to accumulating mountain snow starting on Friday. Beyond that, latest guidance has a low pressure system moving into our area later in the weekend, hinting at cooler and more unsettled weather into early next week. However, model solutions greatly diverge on the path and evolution of this system, so it will likely be several days before those details become certain.
