Discussion
(This evening through Friday) Issued at 404 PM CDT SAT OCT 24 2026
This afternoon at the surface, a large area of high pressure is present across much of the eastern half of Conus. In the upper levels, northerly flow is present. Dry conditions will persist through the seven day forecast with warm days and cool nights. A surface low is present over Central Canada today with an associated front extending out to the south of it into Minnesota and back into the Plains. Upper ridging will start out over the Central US and traverse into Eastern Conus by the end of the weekend. We will remain in an overall rain free pattern with little available moisture for rain. We may have enough moisture for some cloud cover for Monday through Wednesday with some minor perturbations in the upper flow. However, the lower levels will remain dry with no major frontal system set to move through the area through the forecast. Temperatures will remain fairly similar through the middle of the upcoming week with lows in the 40s to the lower 50s and highs generally in the 70s across Central Alabama. Toward the end of the week, our low level flow begins to turn more east- southeast. This will allow for a little moderating of our airmass with more 50s and some lower 80s mingling in with the respective lows and highs by Thursday into next weekend.

Under the stout upper-level ridge, VFR conditions are anticipated for the entire TAF period. The lone exception will be KASN, where MVFR VIS is expected overnight due to patchy fog.
Note: Fall seasonal issuance of the KASN Talladega TAF began on 10/18 00Z and will continue through 10/28 18Z.

Fire Weather
High pressure will allow us to maintain rain-free conditions with light winds through early next week. Daytime MinRH values are forecast to be in the 25 to 35 percent range. Winds pick up slightly over the weekend, generally in the 5-8 knot range. Given MinRH values and drying fuels, fire weather concerns will remain marginal into the weekend.
