Discussion

KEY MESSAGE 1...

Cold front is well south of the area now, with cooler air filtering in. Satellite imagery showing high level clouds in place across much of the area gradually pushing south as another large area of high pressure builds across SE Canada with ridging extending into our area. A northerly flow will hold temperatures below normal despite plenty of sunshine this afternoon. Highs expected to range from the upper 40s to mid 50s. The high moves into our region tonight, but increasing clouds late should prevent temperatures from getting much colder than guidance is indicating. It will still be chilly with lows in the 20s to lower 30s. An approaching warm front brings some added cloud cover on Wed, with high expected to be close to normal in the 50s to near 60F. Milder/above normal temperatures in store for Thu, as a SW flow results in an anomalously warm air mass (850 mb temperature anomalies of +1 to +2 STDEV). A cold front with limited moisture is expected to pass through Thu night into Fri A.M. with just a few light showers in the Adirondacks. Temperatures should still be above normal on Fri in wake of the cold front due to deeper mixing developing (possibly up to ~800 mb). Another area of high pressure builds in over the weekend with continued dry weather, along with slightly above normal temperatures. Chances for showers may finally arrive Sun night into Mon, although there is large model spread this far out so confidence is low.

Aviation

Through 12z Wednesday...VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the 24 hour TAF period as high pressure builds in from the north/west. Just some SCT high level cirrus clouds will be around through this morning, and increasing again late tonight. Winds will be north to northeast around 5-10 kt through much of today, weakening to less than 5 kt tonight.
