Discussion
Issued at 120 AM CDT Tue Oct 20 2026
Temperatures are forecast to be near to slightly above normal through the week and into the weekend. Winds generally below 15 knots varying from north to east can be expected through the work week, before becoming southeast over the weekend.
Rain chances will be very low today due to drier air moving across S TX. Rain chances increase across the coastal waters this afternoon with the activity moving inland overnight. This activity is associated with a surface to mid level trough moving west and bringing deep gulf moisture (PWAT 1.9 inches) to the area. There is a 20-40% chance of mainly showers along the coastline. As the trough moves farther west, the chance of showers shifts west across the southern Coastal Plains and southern Brush Country through the day. Rain chances diminish Wednesday night with very low to nil rain chances through the remainder of the week as mid/upper level high pressure takes hold. Models indicate low rain chances return Sunday and increase early next week.
A northeast to east wind will persist across the gulf waters through at least Thursday, if not Friday, due to the series of surface to mid level troughs moving west across the region. Although the flow will generally be 5-15 knots, the persistent direction and swell periods around 8 seconds could lead to minor coastal flooding during times of high tide. Latest P-ETSS run indicated that tide levels may exceed the 2ft MSL threshold with the high tide Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning. Confidence is low to moderate. Trends will continue to be monitored for possible Coastal Flood Advisories.
Will continue with a moderate rip current risk today and Wednesday due to swell periods around 8 seconds. The northeast flow tends to lower the rip current risk, but 8 second period swells tends to increase the risk.
