Key Messages
Updated at 1248 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
- Isolated to scattered showers tonight through Wednesday.
- Locally heavy rain possible Thursday and Friday.
- Mild to warm conditions continue through the week.
Short Term
(Tonight through Tuesday night) Issued at 1248 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
Upper air analysis this morning shows southwesterly flow over TX with a ridge to the east and trough to the west. The low level flow is from the east across our CWA. There are isolated to scattered showers from northern Mexico to west Texas in the diffluent flow aloft. Some showers could spread over our western counties this afternoon and continue through the early evening. Low temperatures will be within a couple of degrees of Monday morning's. Tuesday the upper pattern will shift toward the east while to the low level flow turns a little toward the southeast. This will bring a bit more moist air across the Coastal Plains to the central part of our CWA. There will be another chance for isolated to scattered showers with a few thunderstorms possible. The best chances for rain will be along and south of I-10/Hwy90. Cloudiness will keep high temperatures down near Monday's highs. There may be some lingering showers Tuesday night, but most places will likely be dry. Temperatures will be about the same as Monday night.
Long Term
(Wednesday through next Monday) Issued at 1248 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
Another mid to upper level trough will dig down along the west coast and keep the flow over Texas southwesterly for the latter half of the week. The low level flow will continue to be southeasterly. PW values will increase from the southeast to northwest Wednesday into Thursday. A shortwave trough in the southwesterly flow aloft will interact with this moist airmass making showers and thunderstorms likely Thursday into early Friday. Models show PW 1.75-2.00 inches over the western half of our CWA which could lead to locally heavy rain. WPC has this area in the slight (Level 2 of 4) risk for rainfall to exceed flash flood guidance Thursday. Friday evening the upper shortwave will move away to the northeast, there still may be enough lift for isolated showers Friday night and Saturday. Dry weather will return for Saturday night through Monday.
With cloudy skies and rain, temperatures will be cooler Thursday and Friday with highs mostly in the 70s. The weekend should be warmer with less cloudiness and mainly dry weather.
Aviation
(18Z TAFS) Issued at 1248 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
Some shower activity will be possible at DRT this afternoon and based on radar data, we have mentioned a TEMPO group for -SHRA through 23Z. Otherwise, cigs have lifted back to VFR and this will continue through most of the evening hours before MVFR clouds redevelop early Tuesday morning. Cloud cover looks higher for SAT/SSF westward to DRT and will keep prevailing MVFR in the forecast here, with some TEMPO MVFR after sunrise at AUS. Winds remain light and from the east to southeast through the period.
