Discussion
Key Message 1: Dry weather continues the remainder of this week and into this weekend with temperatures near to just below normal.
Dry weather will persist through the end of the week and into the weekend as an upper-level blocking pattern remains in place. A rinse and repeat forecast is expected with slightly cooler max temperatures starting Friday and into the weekend as highs generally reach the upper 60s to lower 70s. Large diurnal temperature swings will continue, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s for most locations each night. At the surface this weekend, high pressure should ridge down from New England with a tightening pressure gradient, so breezy winds could be possible Saturday and Sunday. Heading into next week, surface high pressure is expected to become centered across the Carolinas during the early week, bringing continued dry weather and temperatures just below normal. A bit more uncertainty in the upper pattern into the middle of next week is seen across deterministic/AI guidance, but overall, any chance for rain remains low.
Aviation
VFR conditions expected through the next 24 hours.
With little change to the pattern this evening and overnight, expect much of the same through tonight. Skies will be mostly clear with light winds overnight and into early Friday morning. Winds may be stronger by mid- morning Friday with slightly better mixing. This could bring winds back up to around 6-9 kts, and gusts around 15 kts towards 14z-16z at all locations. As for fog, can not completely rule out another morning of patchy shallow ground fog, but no significant restrictions expected as it remains too dry near the surface.
EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...A bit more moisture increases this weekend possibly leading to areas of patchy fog; especially with locations near bodies of water.
