Forecasters' discussion

From the National Weather Service office in ILN, issued 5 hrs ago

What Has Changed

No significant changes.

Key Messages

1) Dry conditions will continue through the week.

2) The potential for rain returns for the latter part of the weekend.

Discussion

KEY MESSAGE 1) Mid level ridge extending from the lower Mississippi Valley into the Great Lakes will gradually get suppressed, first by a trough moving across Canada and then as a series of short waves move out of the Plains. This will lead to generally zonal flow for the latter part of the week, with perhaps a bit of short wave ridging heading into the weekend ahead of an approaching system.

A weak boundary will drop south across the area later today into this evening. This will wash out tomorrow night into Wednesday with high pressure reasserting itself. Another front may lay out across the Great Lakes and sag into the area later in the week. There could be an increase in moisture near this second front which would lead to more clouds. Until then, low to mid levels will remain dry, but there should be more extensive cirrus.

Temperatures will remain above normal.

KEY MESSAGE 2) Ensemble systems are in reasonably good agreement that a short wave will move across the area on Sunday, although there are considerable differences on what type of surface reflection this may result in. Nonetheless, deeper moisture is forecast to accompany this resulting in the first chance of rain in two weeks. This could develop into the area later Saturday night, but the better chance is Sunday into Sunday night.

Aviation

Scattered to broken cirrus will move across the area through the period. Valley fog will cause visibility reductions at KLUK again late in the period. Winds will become west southwest at less than 10 kt and then return to light and variable after 00Z.

OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
