The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... Southwestern Sierra County in south central New Mexico... Eastern Grant County in southwestern New Mexico...

* Until 915 PM MDT.

* At 713 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Lake Valley.

What to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Where: Northwestern Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico... Central Sierra County in south central New Mexico...

When: Until 915 PM MDT.

Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Additional details: - At 620 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall of up to 0.5 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Upham, Arrey, Caballo, Derry, Engle, Cutter, Spaceport America, Elephant Butte Lake and Caballo Lake. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
