Coastal Flood Advisory issued October 25 at 3:32PM EDT until October 29 at 2:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC

Details

What: For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip currents and strong longshore currents in the surf zone. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to 1 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

Where: East Carteret and Coastal Onslow Counties.

When: For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 2 PM EDT Thursday. For the Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this evening.

Impacts: 1 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Strong longshore currents will create dangerous swimming conditions.

Additional details: Tide levels will continue to rise with a King Tide Cycle in place through the upcoming work-week. The morning high tide will be the highest of the two daily tides. King Tides peak Tuesday and Wednesday.

What to do

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
