Discussion

The blocking pattern continues over the eastern half of the United States. A low pressure system is moving well off to the north of central IL, up in Canada, this weekend with a cold front sitting off to our W/NW. Some high cloud cover at times is expected for today.
Temperatures will continue to be above normal this week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s, nearing 80 in some places later in the week. Lows for the first half of the week will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Then will warm to the mid to upper 50s for the second half of the week. Normal highs for this time of year is around 61-65 degrees across central and southeastern IL. The CPC's 6-10 day, 8-14 day, and Week 3-4 outlooks all show above normal temperatures. Dry weather will last through much of the extended period as well.
A weak shortwave passage through central IL has been trending later in the week over the last few forecast cycles. Now it looks to pass through on Thursday, possibly bringing some light sprinkles near and north of the IL River Valley. However, it could pass without any activity due to how dry our airmass is.
The next best chance for any rain is more likely to arrive this next weekend, just in time for Halloween festivities. A stronger shortwave appears to pulse through IL Saturday/Sunday next week, bringing a 40-60% chance for showers. Amounts are forecast to be pretty minimal, but there is time for this forecast to change. Timing/location/amounts will continue to shift as we move closer. Trends will continue to be monitored with future forecasts.
