Key Messages

- Elevated fire danger is likely the next several afternoons due to low relative humidity.

- Mostly clear and dry conditions will persist for the next 7 days.

Short Term

(This afternoon through Tuesday) Issued at 151 PM EDT Mon Oct 19 2026

The combination of low amplitude mid-level ridging, surface high pressure, and a supremely dry continental airmass (PWAT of 0.34" measured on this morning's 12Z sounding, well below the 10th percentile climatologically) will support continued clear and dry conditions for the next several days. Highs this afternoon will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s, just a tick warmer -- in the 70s to near 80 -- on Tuesday as airmass moderation continues. Morning lows will be similarly crisp but warmer than today, in the 40s for most. With minimum values of relative humidity at or below critical thresholds, a Fire Danger Statement is in effect for portions of of north and north central Georgia through 8PM this evening. Gradual moisture return begins tomorrow, but at least a subset of the area is likely to meet or exceed critical thresholds, potentially necessitating further product issuance.

Long Term

(Wednesday morning through next Sunday) Issued at 151 PM EDT Mon Oct 19 2026

Autumn, it would appear, is here to stay for a while. High pressure over the southeast is expected to spin in place through the rest of the work week and into the weekend. No sign of precipitation in any of the models isn't expected to do us any favors when it comes to the drought monitor going forwards. As the days grow shorter and the leaves drop, we'll need to be mindful of the combination of dry fuels and low relative humidity as we being our fall Fire Season.

Temperatures during the daytime will climb into the low to mid 70s across most of the CWA with winds out of the ENE. Gusty conditions are expected to return this weekend with sustained winds around 10- 15 mph gusting up to 20 mph. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the mid to low 40s for the remainder of the week, making the mornings feel especially crisp.

Aviation

(06Z TAFS) Issued at 127 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

VFR thru period at all TAF sites. Winds light and vrb, generally N to NE by 15-16z. Sustained winds along and north of I20 generally less than 5kts. Areas to south winds sustained at 4 to 8kts during aftn.
