Key Messages
Updated at 648 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026
- Northeast winds will increase today, then increase further on Sunday, becoming windy. Northeast wind gusts will peak in the 25-35 mph range during the day on Sunday.
- Hazardous marine conditions are expected from this evening through early next week due to strong and near-gale northeast winds. The windiest conditions will be on tonight through Sunday night, when frequent gusts to near gale-force are expected. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for all the open Gulf waters.
Aviation
(12Z TAFS) Issued at 648 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026
VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period with clear skies. Northeast winds will increase late this morning, with gusts of 15 to 20 knots at most terminals. Gusts will diminish after sunset today, but northeast winds should still remain elevated around 5 to 10 knots overnight.
Marine
Issued at 224 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026
A prolonged period of hazardous marine conditions continues through early next week with fresh to strong northeasterly breezes of 20-25 kt and gusts to 30 kt. Small Craft Advisories continue for the Gulf waters through Tuesday afternoon, but could be extended further into next week. Rough seas will also continue with wave heights of 5 to 8 feet expected.
Fire Weather
Issued at 224 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026
Critical to near-critical RH is expected this afternoon across the AL and GA zones as well as the Apalachicola NF as RH bottoms out in the low to mid 20s. This could result in elevated fire concerns this afternoon, especially in the Alabama and Georgia zones where the combination of critically low RH and elevated winds exists. Elsewhere, RH will be mostly in the low to mid 30s. Transport winds will increase out of the NE this afternoon to 10-15 mph. This will yield good dispersions are-wide. Over the weekend, transport winds increase a bit more out of the northeast to 15-20 mph. However, mixing heights will be a bit lower. Thus, high dispersions are mainly confined to the Apalachicola NF and southeast Big Bend with good dispersions elsewhere. Min RH values will mainly be in the 30s both afternoons.
