Forecasters' discussion

From the National Weather Service office in VEF, issued 4 hrs ago

Key Messages

* Quiet and seasonable conditions through at least Wednesday, with signs of a more active pattern returning late in the week.

Discussion

Today through Saturday.

The upper level low responsible for precipitation and cooler temperatures the last few days will track east and a zonal flow pattern will persist aloft for most of the week. This pattern will promote dry and stable conditions and seasonable temperatures. Afternoon high temperatures will be within a few degrees of normal for this time of year, which for Las Vegas means highs in the upper 70s. A pattern shift arrives towards the end of the week as a trough approaches the west coast and southwesterly flow develops over the southwestern United States. Potential changes include cooler temperatures, increased winds, and low to moderate (10 to 50 percent) chances of precipitation over Halloween weekend. Details regarding the timing and location of these impacts will become more apparent throughout the week.

Aviation

For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds remain light through the TAF period. Expect variable wind directions through the late morning before winds turn easterly. West winds return into the early night before becoming lighter and variable again into late Sunday night. Skies stay clear through the day with cloud cover around 25000 ft AGL arriving into the night.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds stay light and variable through the morning with slight increases expected into the afternoon. Winds directions this afternoon will mostly by easterly, with the exceptions being KIFP and KEED which will be northerly then northeasterly later into the day. Winds for most areas become very light into the late night as high-level clouds build into the region from the west.
