Key Messages

Issued at 257 PM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026

- Moderate to strong northeast winds will create hazardous conditions for small craft over most of the marine area into early next week, possibly continuing into late week.

- A High Risk of rip currents is expected for beach areas through Monday, and may occur also on Wednesday.

Discussion

Issued at 1122 AM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026

A highly amplified upper ridge extending from the western Gulf into the Great Lakes region slowly progresses into the eastern states through Monday as an upper trof just off the East Coast drifts a bit further eastward. The upper ridge/trof pattern shifts slowly eastward through Wednesday with the upper ridge meanwhile dampening and becoming oriented near the East Coast. The upper ridge then rebuilds over the eastern states going into Friday. A surface ridge remains over the region for the most part and promotes a prevailing northeasterly flow over the forecast area through the period. Dry conditions are expected through Friday, and it's possible that some isolated showers may affect the western portion of the area next Saturday. Highs of Sunday and Monday range from the mid 70s to around 80, then upper 70s to lower 80s are expected for Tuesday through Thursday, gradually trending to mostly the lower 80s by next Saturday. Lows tonight range from the upper 40s well inland to the mid/upper 50s at the coast with similar values through Wednesday night before trending to the mid 50s to lower 60s by Friday night. A High Risk of rip currents is expected through Monday, then a moderate risk follows for Monday night through Tuesday. A High Risk of rip currents returns on Wednesday. /29

Aviation

(18Z TAFS) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026

VFR conditions will prevail through the period. NE surface winds around 10kts are expected for much of the area and due to a mid- level northeasterly jet and adequate mixing, locally higher wind gusts into the lower 20kts should be expected during daylight hours. Wind gusts are expected to calm overnight before returning to similar strengths after sunrise Sunday morning.

Marine

Issued at 257 PM CDT Sat Oct 24 2026

Moderate to strong northeasterly winds prevail through Monday morning, then diminish Monday afternoon. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for the open Gulf waters through 1 pm Monday. The offshore flow strengthens somewhat Monday night, diminishes on Tuesday, then begins to strengthen again Tuesday night. Small craft exercise caution conditions will be possible well offshore late Monday night into Tuesday morning, and also late Tuesday night. A moderate to strong flow prevails for Wednesday and Thursday, and another Small Craft Advisory will likely become necessary mainly for the open Gulf waters. /29
