Key Messages

* A dry cold front passes to the north today, keeping temperatures cool today but with no expectations of additional precipitation.

* Clear skies during the day may allow for overnight lows in the Umpqua Valley could reach frost conditions early Saturday morning.

* A low pressure system looks to bring more rainfall to west side areas late Sunday into the day Monday, as well as gusty winds over terrain and to areas east of the Cascades.

* Beyond Tuesday, mild weather is generally expected but slight chances for additional activity remain.

Discussion

The last signs of showers are drifting along the easternmost edge of Lake County early this morning. Widespread showers on Thursday brought roughly 0.5 to 0.75 inches of rainfall to areas east of the Cascades and over terrain in western Siskiyou County. The Scott, Shasta, and Rogue valleys got around 0.1 to 0.2 inches of rainfall, with a few hundredths reaching farther north. A dry cold front passes to the north today, which will keep temperatures cool across the area today. Daytime highs will see little change from Friday's, but clear skies tonight into Saturday morning will bring lower overnight lows. For the Umpqua Valley, this means frost conditions are expected early Saturday morning. Temperatures in other west side valleys could drop to near freezing while areas east of the Cascades look to be in the mid 20s to mid teens. With moisture lingering, low-lying areas may see areas of patchy fog on early Saturday morning as well.

A progressive patterns over the weekend with an upper ridge creeping towards the area. This will bring weekend highs back over seasonal norms by up to five degrees for west side valleys while the east side highs will stay closer to average. This warmth will be short- lived as current guidance shows a low pressure system approaching late Sunday and remaining over the area through much of Monday, bringing rainfall focused on west side areas as well as gusty winds over terrain and areas east of the Cascades. This next round of activity looks overall unimpactful in guidance, with coastal areas seeing 0.4 to 0.8 inches and inland areas seeing lower amounts and elevated winds staying safely below advisory levels.

Behind the low pressure system, flow aloft looks to be determined by a different system hovering over the Pacific Ocean and ridging over the southwestern United States. If the low has more influence, cool or seasonal temperatures continue. If the ridge can nudge the low farther west, temperatures may creep slightly above average. There is some uncertainty, with GFS ensembles showing a ~30% chance for additional rainfall during the week while the ECMWF ensemble shows drier outcomes. But even in the case for additional activity, significant impacts do not look likely during the week. -TAD

Aviation

23/12Z TAFs...Rainfall has eased across the area, leaving VFR levels under lingering mid to high level clouds. Periods of IFR/LIFR levels are possible at the Klamath Falls terminal early this morning, but are only expected to linger for a few hours if they do develop. The rest of the day looks uneventful, with VFR ceilings and normal diurnal winds expected. -TAD

Marine

Updated 330 AM PDT Friday, October 23, 2026...Gusty northerly winds continue but start to ease this morning. Seas north of Cape Blanco ease but remain steep by this afternoon while hazardous conditions will persist in the south. Improvement in all seas is expected over the weekend, though with steep seas may linger in southern waters through Saturday evening.
