Mostly sunny skies, warm temperatures, and breezy southerly winds have been observed across the local area this afternoon. With steady southerly winds expected to continue into the evening and overnight hours, a repeat of some patchy dense fog is not expected for Friday morning.
As the pressure gradient continues to tighten across the region on Friday ahead of the upper level trough to our west, expect a more windy day across the area with gusts of 45 MPH+ not out of the question. At the same time, mid/upper level clouds will continue to be on the increase, but with weak warm advection continuing across the area, these clouds will have little impact on the very pleasant temps we have been enjoying lately. In fact, it may be another 1-2F warmer during the afternoon hours tomorrow based on temperatures aloft than today.
Expect the main upper level low across southern California to lift north into the broader trough of low pressure over the next 24 hours with a secondary area of low pressure eventually helping to push the broader trough east and into the desert southwest by Saturday. This low will then lift northeast into the Rockies in concert with the upper level trough later in the weekend, increasing chances for precipitation across the local area. This progression is just a bit slower than the models were hinting at yesterday, and as was noted by the previous shift, precipitation chances for the central and eastern parts of the area may now not really increase until Sunday evening or Monday morning. Given the slower progression, a sharper cutoff in QPF can also be noted in the latest forecast, with areas west of HWY 281 now forecast to receive 1-2+ inches of rainfall, and areas further east receiving more modest amounts over the period of 0.5-1" of precip. While the exact amounts are not set in stone, the heavier amounts are definitely favored to fall over western areas, which arguably probably need it the most.
At the surface, expect a cold front to stall across the local area on Saturday, helping to eventually bring temperatures back down closer to climatology by early next week as the main upper level trough exits the region. As the trough exits to the east, a more zonal pattern will set up aloft across the plains with mainly dry and seasonal weather returning to the local area through the following weekend.
Aviation

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:
Tonight: Main aviation concern will be low level wind shear caused by strong 45kt low level jet. The greatest shear will be in the 05Z to 13Z time frame. Sfc winds will be SSE between 10-15kt. Otherwise, VFR with only mid to high clouds. Confidence: High.
Friday: Strong winds will continue to be the main story. By afternoon, Srly winds will increase to 17-23kt sustained, and gusts about 35kt. Expect more waves of mid to high clouds through the day. Confidence: High.
