Forecasters' discussion

From the National Weather Service office in SGF, issued 2 hrs ago

Key Messages

- Above normal temperatures into or through next week. Highs in the middle 70s to around 80 and dry weather are expected through at least the middle of next week.

Short Term

Issued at 1100 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026

More of the same in the short term. Strong ridging will keep precip away from the area and will allow for highs in the mid 70s to around 80 today and lows in the mid 40s to mid 50s tonight. MinRH values of 25-35% are expected this afternoon with light southerly winds.

Long Term

Issued at 1100 PM CDT Thu Oct 22 2026

High pressure will continue to build through the weekend into early next week according to ensemble data, with high confidence in well above normal conditions (highs in the 70s to around 80). No precip is expected in this time frame.

Toward the middle to end next week, the upper ridge will weaken and shift east, resulting in SW flow. This will favor slightly cooler temps (still above normal with highs generally in the 70s) and slightly increased chances for precipitation (15-25% Thursday and Friday). There remains quite a bit of uncertainty, especially with precip chances.

Aviation

Issued at 548 AM CDT Fri Oct 23 2026

VFR conditions and light winds will persist through the TAF period.
