- Seasonable Conditions: Fair weather with warm afternoons and cool mornings is expected through the next seven days.

Discussion

(Wednesday through next Tuesday) Issued at 1047 PM CDT TUE OCT 20 2026

Dry northwesterly to northerly flow aloft persists through Thursday, between ridging over the Southern Plains and troughing along the East Coast. At the surface, high pressure over the eastern CONUS maintains a dry continental air mass, while a surface low moves slowly northeastward off of the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast coastlines. Cool nights and temperatures near to slightly above average are expected with no rain. Friday through the weekend the low pressure system over the western Atlantic exits, while a cutoff low forms near Cuba. This allows the mid-level subtropical ridge to build eastward, but a strengthening CAD wedge in the wake of the Atlantic system results in slightly cooler high temperatures for the weekend. A shortwave trough approaches the area next week, but little to no moisture return is indicated at this time as high pressure persists at the surface.

Aviation

(18Z TAFS) Issued at 1246 PM CDT WED OCT 21 2026

VFR TAFs are expected through the 24 hour forecast with surface high pressure in place across much of Eastern Conus. Look for minimal high clouds and light/variable to near calm winds.

Note: Fall seasonal issuance of the KASN Talladega TAF began on 10/18 00Z and will continue through 10/28 18Z.

Fire Weather

High pressure will maintain rain-free and light wind conditions over the next week. Daytime MinRH values are forecast to be in the 25 to 35 percent range. Winds pick up slightly over the weekend. Given MinRH values and drying fuels, fire weather concerns will remain medium into the weekend.
