Short Term
(This afternoon through Monday) Issued at 233 PM EDT Sun Oct 25 2026
Current satellite loop shows mostly clear conditions across the area with some isolated mid level clouds streaming across N GA. Models continue to show a fairly strong wedge building down the eastern seaboard with the ridge centered over the Mid-Atlantic states. This ridge/wedge is keeping things dry with the overall E to NERLY flow but we are seeing a little bit of moisture return from the Atlantic. This moisture return is keeping RH values above critical fire danger thresholds and we will see some increase cloud cover as we go further into the week. With the wedge building into the area and a low pressure system rotation off the GA/FL coast, the pressure gradient is staying fairly tight across the area creating gusty NE winds. Seeing E to NE winds speeds in the 10-15kt range with gust 20-35kt this afternoon. These winds speeds are expected to diminish overnight but they will pick back up again Mon.
Temps staying in the upper 60s to middle 70s through the short term with morning lows in the 40s to near 50 deg. May see some upper 30s across the NE GA mountains Tonight and again Mon night.
Long Term
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday) Issued at 233 PM EDT Sun Oct 25 2026
A quiet start is in store over the long term for our area with a continuation of the sunny and dry conditions through the end of the upcoming work week. At the mid and upper levels, conditions remain dry, with low RH values associated with a mid-level ridge that will break down by the end of the week. At the surface, a regional high pressure centered over the mid-Atlantic will weaken by mid-week, and will be absorbed into stronger surface high pressure transiting the northeast coast. Ultimately, this setup will continue to support a general northeast wind component channeled along the lee side of the Appalachians into our area through the end of the week.
While we will have slightly moister low levels due to the northeast to east component of our surface winds, some dry air and lower RH values will filter over our area by Tuesday, so we will keep an eye on the need to issue a fire danger statement on this day. Otherwise, temperatures will gradually climb each day through the week, with daytime highs rising from the low to upper 70s up into the low 80s over central Georgia by Friday into Halloween weekend.
Looking ahead to next weekend, guidance suggests a shift in the synoptic pattern becoming more zonally oriented by the end of the week. As far as precipitation is concerned, rain chances do look to be on the increase by the end of the long term, but models are not in agreement with the development or placement of the surface low pressure. As a result, whether we see any precipitation or the extent of coverage will need to be fine tuned as we progress over the next few days. At this time, precipitation chances are still low for Halloween night.
Aviation
(18Z TAFS) Issued at 1246 PM EDT Sun Oct 25 2026 Mostly clear skies expected to continue through this TAF period with no precipitation or restrictions to VSBYs. Winds will stay out of the E to NE with speeds in the 10-15kt range with Gust to 25kt through this afternoon. Speeds will diminish to 10kt or less overnight then increase again Mon afternoon. Not expecting speeds to be as elevated Monday.
